Calton, Glasgow

Calton (Scottish Gaelic: A' Challtainn, lit. 'the hazel wood', Scots: Caltoun), known locally as The Calton, is a district in Glasgow. It is situated north of the River Clyde, and just to the east of the city centre. Calton's most famous landmark is the Barras street market and the Barrowland Ballroom, one of Glasgow's principal musical venues. No official definition of Calton's boundaries exist, notionally it can be thought of as the roughly trapezoidal area bounded by the River Clyde to the south, Abercromby Street to the east (where it borders both Camlachie and Bridgeton), and the City Union Line railway to the north and High Street/Saltmarket to the west.

Glasgow Green railway station

Glasgow Green was a railway station in the east end of Glasgow, Scotland. The station was opened on 1 November 1895 and closed on 1 January 1917. It reopened on 1 June 1919 and closed again on 2 November 1953. The station then sat unused on the Argyle Line of the Glasgow suburban railway network, with no plans to reopen and its platforms removed. The lettering of the station name was in the same style of other Caledonian Stations, most notably on the main canopy of Glasgow Central. On 20 March 2012, what remained of the station's façade (the southern and western walls, their windows and doorways bricked up) was demolished. Network Rail cited public safety as the reason, claiming the façade had become unsafe after sustaining storm damage.

Gallowgate Central railway station

Gallowgate Central railway station was located in Glasgow, Scotland and served the Calton area of that city via the Glasgow City and District Railway. Gallowgate Central was on the Bridgeton Central branch of the modern North Clyde line, now closed.

West brewery is an alcoholic beverage restaurant located in the Templeton Building in Glasgow Green, Scotland. West produces German Style lagers and wheat beers, both in kegs and bottles, which are sold primarily to the UK market. All West lagers and wheat beers are brewed in accordance with the 1516 Reinheitsgebot, the German Purity Law.

Barrowland Ballroom

The Barrowland Ballroom (also known as Barrowland and The Barras) is an entertainment venue, dance hall and music venue located in the Calton district in Glasgow, Scotland. A prominent feature of the music scene in Glasgow, the venue has appeared in various elements of popular culture, notably tracks by Amy Macdonald, Simple Minds and Christy Moore.
