Klosters itself consists of the two main parts Klosters Dorf and Kloster Platz, and the settlements Selfranga, Äuja, Monbiel. Together with neighbouring Serneus, the two villages formed the municipality of Klosters-Serneus. On 1 January 2016, the former municipality of Saas im Prättigau merged into Klosters-Serneus.
Klosters is on the Austrian border. The village's ski resort lies 150 km from Zurich, the nearest international airport. Klosters is 10 km north from Davos and part of its extended ski area.

It is located on the 1,000 mm gauge Vereina line of the Rhaetian Railway, just short of the 19,042-metre Vereina Tunnel. The station is the northern end of the Vereina car shuttle train to Sagliains and does not serve regular passenger trains, which call at Klosters Platz.
