The Democratic Republic of Yemen, was a short-lived state that fought against the mainland Yemen in the 1994 Yemeni Civil War. It was declared in May 1994 and covered all of the former South Yemen.
The DRY, with its capital in Aden, was led by President Ali Salem al-Beidh and Prime Minister Haidar Abu Bakr al-Attas and represented a response to the weakening position of the South in the civil war of 1994. The new state failed to receive international recognition. Its leaders, in addition to Yemeni Socialist Party figures such as al-Beidh and Attas, included some prominent personalities from South Yemeni history such as Abdallah al-Asnaj, who had been strenuously opposed to YSP one-party rule in the former People's Democratic Republic of Yemen.

The Chief Commissioner's Province of Aden was a province of British Raj under which the former Aden Settlement was placed from 1932 to 1937. Under that new status, the Viceroy of India assumed control over Aden, which had hitherto been administered by the government of the Bombay Presidency. The Aden Protectorate remained unaffected by this change.

The State of Aden was a state constituted in Aden within the Federation of South Arabia. Following its establishment on 18 January 1963, Sir Charles Johnston stepped down as the last Governor of Aden.
In spite of the hopes placed in the Federation, the insurgency in Aden escalated and hastened the end of British presence in the territory with the British leaving Aden by the end of November 1967.
The State of Aden became part of the independent People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, also known as South Yemen, on 30 November 1967.
Durant sa brève existence, cet État avait pour président Ali Salem al-Beidh et pour Premier ministre Haider Aboubaker al-Attas.
