St John's Catholic School & Sixth Form College is a Coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school and sixth form with academy status. It is located on Woodhouse Lane in the town of Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England. St John's Catholic School opened in 1964 and currently has 1372 pupils enrolled between the ages of 11 and 18 (of which 305 are aged 16–18). School facilities include a swimming pool, sports hall, gymnasium and an Astroturf football pitch, all of which are used by the school and outside community groups. St John's has a variety of after school clubs including a swimming club and chess club.

Bishop Barrington Academy (formerly Bishop Barrington School) is a co-educational secondary school located in the town of Bishop Auckland, Co Durham, England.
It was established in 1810 in the town's market place and named after, the then Bishop of Durham, Shute Barrington, who was a notable patron of education. Today the school is based on Woodhouse Lane opposite St John's Catholic School and Bishop Auckland College.
Previously a community school administered by Durham County Council, in September 2021 Bishop Barrington School converted to academy status and was renamed Bishop Barrington Academy. The school is now sponsored by the Advance Learning Partnership.

Woodhouse Close Estate or locally "Woodhouse" is a post-war former council housing estate, located to the south of Bishop Auckland, County Durham, England. It is not to be confused with a nearby hamlet named "Woodhouses". The estate was built to house hundreds of families who were displaced due to their villages being ruled a "Category D" Village. In an area classified as D, this meant that no future development would be permitted, and property would be acquired and demolished. Woodhouse Close now has multiple villages which are situated on the outskirts of the estate such as Tindale Crescent and Etherley Dene.
