Medea is a comune in the Regional decentralization entity of Gorizia in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about 45 kilometres northwest of Trieste and about 15 kilometres west of Gorizia. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 918 and an area of 7.3 square kilometres.
The municipality of Medea contains the frazioni Ara Pacis, Monte di Medea, and Sant’Antonio.
Medea borders the following municipalities: Chiopris-Viscone, Cormons, Mariano del Friuli, Romans d'Isonzo, San Vito al Torre.

Chiopris-Viscone is a comune in the Regional decentralization entity of Udine in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about 45 kilometres northwest of Trieste and about 20 kilometres southeast of Udine. It is formed by the two frazioni of Chiopris, which is the municipal seat, and Viscone.
Chiopris-Viscone borders the following municipalities: Cormons, Medea, San Giovanni al Natisone, San Vito al Torre, Trivignano Udinese.
Until 1918, Chiopris-Viscone was part of the Austria-Hungary, until it was given to Italy. However, in 1923 it was detached from the province of Gorizia and assigned to the province of Udine.

The Natisone is a 60-kilometre river in Slovenia and Italy. It flows for some time as a border river between Slovenia and Italy, continues in Slovenia and then crosses the border and continues in Eastern Friuli, in northeastern Italy. It is the main tributary of the Torre and a sub-affluent of the Isonzo. It has a pluvio-nival regime and belongs to the Adriatic Sea Basin.
The Natisone is formed at 415 metres above sea level on the border between Friuli and Slovenia by the confluence of two streams: the Rio Bianco and the Rio Nero which spring from the Punta di Montemaggiore and Gabrovec mountains. Before the confluence with the Torre, it passes through the municipalities of Pulfero and Cividale del Friuli.
