Haddington Athletic F.C.

Haddington Athletic Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Haddington, the county town of East Lothian. Nicknamed the Hi-His, the club were founded in 1939 and play their home matches at Millfield. The team competes in the East of Scotland League Premier Division, having moved from the junior leagues in 2018. In July 2021, Scott Bonar became the manager of the club.

Knox Academy

Knox Academy is a co-educational state secondary school located in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. Originally founded in 1379 as a medieval grammar school, it is one of the oldest schools in the world.

Siege of Haddington

The sieges of Haddington were a series of sieges staged at the Royal Burgh of Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland, as part of the War of the Rough Wooing, one of the last Anglo-Scottish Wars. Following Regent Arran's defeat at the battle of Pinkie Cleugh on Saturday 10 September 1547, he captured the town of Haddington. The intention was to form a network of mutually supporting English forts in lowland Scotland. The English forces built artillery fortifications and were able to withstand an assault by the besieging French and Scots troops supported by heavy cannon in July 1548. Although the siege was scaled down after this unsuccessful attempt, the English garrison abandoned the town on 19 September 1549, after attrition by Scottish raids at night, sickness, and changing political circumstance.

Palace of Haddington

The Palace of Haddington was a 12th–13th-century royal palace in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. The palace stood in King Street (now Court Street), on the site of the present East Lothian Council buildings. Remains of the vaulting of the palace were found in 1833, during excavations. Ada de Warenne obtained Haddington as part of her marriage settlement with Prince Henry of Scotland. Upon the death of her husband in 1152, Ada lived at the palace until her death in 1178. King William the Lion of Scotland used the palace from time to time and it was the birthplace of Alexander II in 1198. The palace and town were burned and pillaged in 1216, by an English army under the command of King John of England. The Scottish royal family appear to have abandoned the palace due to the damage caused.

County Buildings is a municipal structure in Court Street, Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. The structure, which was the headquarters of East Lothian County Council and was also used as a courthouse, is a Category B listed building.
