Swinton is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, in South Yorkshire, England on the west bank of the River Don. It has a population of 15,559 (2011). The town is five miles north-northeast of the larger town of Rotherham and south-west of Mexborough. The original junior and infant school building built in 1852 on Church Street (formerly Fitzwilliam School) still exists, and is being converted into residential apartments called Fitzwilliam Lodge.

It is currently represented by John Healey of the Labour Party, who currently serves as Secretary of State for Defence in the government of Keir Starmer. Healey was previously MP for the predecessor seats of Wentworth (1997–2010) and Wentworth and Dearne (2010–2024). Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, this seat was first contested at the 2024 general election.

Rockingham Kiln

The Rockingham, or Waterloo Kiln in Swinton, in the Rotherham district, in South Yorkshire, England, is a pottery kiln dating from 1815. It formed part of the production centre for the Rockingham Pottery which, in the early 19th century, produced highly-decorative Rococo porcelain. The pottery failed in the mid-19th century, and the kiln is one of the few remaining elements of the Rockingham manufactory. It is a Grade II* listed building and forms part of the Rockingham Works Scheduled monument. The kiln is currently on the Historic England Heritage at Risk Register.
