Kinning Park (sports ground)

Kinning Park was a 19th-century sports ground in Kinning Park, Renfrewshire, Scotland, primarily used for cricket and football. It was the home of Clydesdale Cricket Club from 1849, staging a number of important matches against visiting English teams. It was also the original home of the club's football team, Clydesdale F.C. When both teams relocated to Titwood in 1876, Kinning Park was taken over by Rangers F.C., who played there until moving to the first Ibrox Park in 1887. The ground was the venue for the 1881 Scottish Cup Final (and replay) between Queen's Park and Dumbarton.

Kinning Park subway station

Kinning Park subway station serves the Kinning Park area of Glasgow, Scotland. However, to reach Kinning Park, a footbridge is provided across the M8. It was opened in 1896 and comprehensively modernised in 1977–1980. The station retains its original island platform configuration. Kinning Park station is the shallowest in the Subway system. The station is lightly used and recorded only 240,000 boardings in the 12 months ending March 2005. New ticket barriers came into operation on 10 July 2013.

Pollokshields

Pollokshields (Scottish Gaelic: Buthan Phollaig, Scots: Powkshiels) is an area in the Southside of Glasgow, Scotland. Its modern boundaries are largely man-made, being formed by the M77 motorway to the west and northwest with the open land of Pollok Country Park and the Dumbreck neighbourhood beyond, by the Inverclyde Line railway and other branches which separate its territory from the largely industrial areas of Kinning Park, Kingston and Port Eglinton, and by the Glasgow South Western Line running from the east to south, bordering Govanhill, Strathbungo, Crossmyloof and Shawlands residential areas. There is also a suburban railway running through the area. Pollokshields is a conservation area which was developed in Victorian times according to a plan promoted by the original landowners, the Stirling-Maxwells of Pollok, whose association with the area goes as far back as 1270. The core of the area was constructed in two distinct and contrasting styles, with the western part consisting mainly of large villas with gardens along sweeping, undulating tree-lined boulevards, whereas the eastern part (once a separate burgh) is formed by three-storey sandstone tenements typical of many parts of the city from the era, arranged in a tight grid of streets on relatively flat ground. The former Glasgow Corporation Tramways workshops are in Pollokshields and were home to the Glasgow Museum of Transport from 1964 to 1987 and are home to Tramway since 1988.

Kinning Park is a southern suburb of Glasgow, Scotland. It was formerly a separate police burgh between 1871 and 1905 before being absorbed by the city. In 1897, it had a population of 14,326.
