Huntershill House

Huntershill House is a classic example of an 18th-century Laird's house, built c.1769-1781, designed by an unknown architect. The lands of Huntershill were formerly part of the lands of Auchinairn owned by James Lyle; "his circumstances having become embarrassed his Lands of Auchinairn were sold by his Creditors by Public Roup in several lots" on the 15th day of October 1748. From the 1780s it was the family home of the political reformer Thomas Muir, Younger of Huntershill (1765–1799). Auchinairn is now closely entwined with Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Huntershill house is currently owned by East Dunbartonshire Council, and is a category B listed building, unfortunately during their ownership the building has fallen into disrepair and has ended up being listed on the Buildings at Risk Register for Scotland.

Bishopbriggs railway station is a railway station serving Bishopbriggs in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It is located on the Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk Line, 3+1⁄4 miles (5.2 km) north of Glasgow Queen Street, but is currently only served by services on the Croy Line.

Bishopbriggs

Bishopbriggs (Scots: The Briggs; Scottish Gaelic: Achadh an Easbaig) is a town in East Dunbartonshire, Scotland. It lies on the northern fringe of Greater Glasgow, approximately 4 miles (6 km) from the city centre. Historically in Lanarkshire, the area was once part of the historic parish of Cadder - originally lands granted by King William the Lion to the Bishop of Glasgow, Jocelin, in 1180. It was later part of the county of Lanarkshire, and then an independent burgh from 1964 to 1975. Today, Bishopbriggs' close geographic proximity to Glasgow now effectively makes it a suburb and commuter town of the city. It was ranked the 2nd most desirable postcode in Scotland to live in following a study by the Centre for Economic and Business Research in 2015 and 2016. Bishopbriggs grew from a small rural village on the old road from Glasgow to Kirkintilloch and Stirling during the 19th century, eventually growing to incorporate the adjacent villages of Auchinairn, Cadder, Jellyhill and Mavis Valley. It has a population of approximately 23,500 people. In architectural terms, Bishopbriggs is notable for its Victorian villas, constructed after local landowners Feued lands to the west of Kirkintilloch Road and Springfield Road from the 1850s, adjacent to the then recently completed Bishopbriggs station on the Glasgow to Edinburgh Railway, its inter-war art deco 'Garden Suburb' on the former Kenmure Estate, and also for its large-scale post-war private housing developments, which has more recently also including housing developments in the neighbouring formerly rural area of Robroyston.

Colston, Glasgow

Colston is a mostly residential area in the Scottish city of Glasgow; situated on the northern edge of the city, it is surrounded by the Glasgow areas of Milton to the west and Springburn to the east, and the town of Bishopbriggs to the north. The main road through Colston is the A803 (Springburn Road), which then becomes Kirkintilloch Road once past Colston to the north through Bishopbriggs. Colston Secondary School, which was established in the 1900s, closed in the late 1980s and housing built on the site, but some of the buildings were retained and were converted into laboratories used by Scottish Water. Most children in the Colston area now attend the re-built Springburn Academy. The nearest shopping centres are Springburn Shopping Centre and Bishopbriggs town centre; however, there are several take-away shops and a supermarket within the Colston area. Stobhill Hospital is the nearest hospital, a short distance to the east. Administratively, most of the neighbourhood (south of Colston Road) is under Glasgow City Council, with the streets west of Springburn Road falling within the Canal ward and those to its east within Springburn/Robroyston ward; everything north of Colston Road is in East Dunbartonshire and regarded as part of Bishopbriggs.
