Cambuslang railway station

Cambuslang railway station is a railway station which serves the town of Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The station is 5 miles (8 km) south east of Glasgow Central, and is physically located on the West Coast Main Line (WCML) although main line services do not stop here - it is served by local stopping services as part of the Argyle Line to and from Glasgow Central (both Low & High Level). Passenger services are provided by ScotRail on behalf of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).

Rutherglen and Hamilton West

Rutherglen and Hamilton West was a burgh constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which was created for the 2005 general election. It covered almost all of the former constituency of Glasgow Rutherglen and most of the former constituency of Hamilton South, and it elected one member of parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post voting system. Margaret Ferrier won the seat at the 2019 snap general election for the Scottish National Party; she had previously held the seat from 2015 to 2017. Ferrier had the SNP whip withdrawn on 1 October 2020 after a breach of COVID-19 pandemic regulations, and sat as an independent from that date onward. In June 2023, Ferrier was handed a 30-day suspension from the Commons for her actions, triggering a recall petition which ran until 31 July 2023. On 1 August, South Lanarkshire Council confirmed the recall petition had been successful, as more than 10% of the Rutherglen and Hamilton West electorate had signed. As a result, Ferrier lost her seat and the seat immediately became vacant. A by-election was held on 5 October to elect a new Member of Parliament, won by Labour's Michael Shanks. Historically a safe Labour seat, in 2015 it was gained by the Scottish National Party, when they won a record 56 of the 59 Scottish seats in the House of Commons; ending 51 years of Labour Party dominance at UK general elections in Scotland. Two years later, at the 2017 general election, the seat was taken back by Labour by just 265 votes. Coincidentally in the neighbouring Lanark and Hamilton East, sitting MP Angela Crawley held her seat by just 266 votes. Further to the completion of the 2023 periodic review of Westminster constituencies, the seat was abolished. Subject to boundary changes entailing the loss of "Hamilton West" (assigned to a new Hamilton and Clyde Valley constituency), it reverted to the name of Rutherglen, and was first contested at the 2024 general election.

Cambuslang Rangers F.C.

Cambuslang Rangers Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire. Nicknamed The Lang, Camby or The Wee Gers, were formed in 1899, they play at Somervell Park and wear blue strips (uniforms). They will play in the West of Scotland Football League Conference B from season 2021–22 after moving from the West Region of the Scottish Junior Football Association in 2020. They were awarded the title of 'Scottish Junior team of the 20th century' by the SJFA due to the honours they won in the 1970s.

Cambuslang

Cambuslang (Scots: Cammuslang, from Scottish Gaelic: Camas Lang) is a town on the south-eastern outskirts of Greater Glasgow, Scotland. With approximately 30,000 residents, it is the 27th-largest town in Scotland by population, although, never having had a town hall, it may also be considered the largest village in Scotland. It is within the local authority area of South Lanarkshire and directly borders the town of Rutherglen to the west. Historically, it was a large civil parish incorporating the nearby hamlets of Newton, Flemington, Westburn and Halfway. Cambuslang is located just south of the River Clyde and about six miles (ten kilometres) southeast of the centre of Glasgow. It has a long history of coal mining, from at least 1490, iron and steel making, and ancillary engineering works, most recently The Hoover Company (in the town from 1946 to 2005). The Clydebridge Steelworks and other smaller manufacturing businesses continue but most employment in the area comes from the distribution or service industries. The headquarters of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is in Cambuslang.

West Coats Primary School

West Coats Primary School is a listed building at 60 Brownside Road in Cambuslang on the south east fringe of Glasgow, Scotland. It was built in the late 19th century and is still an active school with over 400 children. It has been extended to accommodate the increasing number of pupils. The school has several classrooms, a gym/dining hall and a Computer Suite. P6 and P7 performed with Scottish Opera at a performance in February 2006. In the early 21st century, West Coats demand for places far outstrips capacity - even with the new extension erected in the upper playground (the erstwhile boys' playground) in the early 2000s. Due to the age of the buildings and the demand for places - which worsened as a large amount of new houses for young families were built in the surrounding area such as at Greenlees, while the school itself continued to receive very good ratings in inspections - the campus was extended in 2003 and refurbished in 2015–16. During the latter process, the pupils had to attend a decant facility at the former Cairns Primary School (which had itself already been rebuilt on an adjacent site) in the Halfway district of Cambuslang. As well as central Cambuslang south of the Main Street, the catchment zone for West Coats includes the Kirkhill and Holmhills (the northern part of Whitlawburn) areas.
