Angus, Scotland

Angus (Scots: Angus; Scottish Gaelic: Aonghas) is one of the 32 local government council areas of Scotland, and a lieutenancy area. The council area borders Aberdeenshire, Dundee City and Perth and Kinross. Main industries include agriculture and fishing. Global pharmaceuticals company GSK has a significant presence in Montrose in the east of the county. Angus was historically a province, and later a sheriffdom and county (called Forfarshire or the County of Forfar until 1928), bordering Kincardineshire to the north-east, Aberdeenshire to the north and Perthshire to the west; southwards it faced Fife across the Firth of Tay. The county included Dundee until 1894, when it was made a county of a city. The pre-1894 boundaries of Angus continue to be used as a registration county. Between 1975 and 1996 Angus was a lower-tier district within the Tayside region. The district took on its modern form and powers in 1996, since when the local authority has been Angus Council.

Forfar United F.C.

Forfar United Junior Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Forfar, Angus. The current club was formed in August 2020 following the amalgamation of the Forfar amateur team Lowson United and Forfar Albion (themselves formed in 1974 following the amalgamation of two existing local sides, Forfar Celtic (est. 1891) and Forfar East End (est. 1881)). After one season playing as Forfar East End Celtic, the name Albion was adopted in 1975. The club play at Guthrie Park. Up until the end of the 2005–06 season, they played in Tayside Division One of the Scottish Junior Football Association's Eastern Region. The SJFA completed its restructuring of Junior football in the east of Scotland prior to the 2006–07 season, and Forfar Albion were placed in the twelve-team East Region, North Division. They finished ninth, 12th and 12th in seasons 2006–07, 2007–08 and 2008–09 respectively, but showed encouraging signs of improvement during the 2009–10 season. Under the new name Forfar United, the club managed an 11th-place finish in the 2022–23 season, then embarked on a youthful rebuild from the 2024–25 season under the new management team of Connor Yeats, Akka Veli , Mark Caldwell, Fraser Reid (GK coach) and Ben Coutts (Physio).

Station Park, Forfar

Station Park is a football ground in Forfar, Angus, Scotland. It is home to Scottish Professional Football League side Forfar Athletic and to Forfar Farmington of the Scottish Women's Premier League. Station Park is one of a number of old-fashioned football grounds left in the Scottish League. It has a capacity of 6,777 although this has previously been much higher. The record crowd is 10,780 against Rangers in 1970. The total has been reduced for safety reasons. The ground allows access to all four sides of the pitch. There is one large terrace behind the goal at the western end of the ground. Called the "mert end" because a cattle market is just over the wall this area is reserved for visiting supporters when occasion and numbers demand separation of fans. A seated grandstand, opened in 1959, is on the north side of the pitch. There is a covered terrace on the south side of the ground and further, uncovered, terracing to the east and in front of the stand and the main catering concession. Catering at the ground includes the local speciality, Forfar bridies and the more usual pie. There are plans to rebuild the main stand in a more modern style with improved facilities. The ground, as the name suggests, was once close to the town's railway station, situated on the Caledonian Railway's main line from Aberdeen to Glasgow and London, but this station was closed in 1968 as part of the Beeching cuts. Station Park is now one of the furthest Scottish League grounds from a railway station (Peterhead's Balmoor ground is further). The nearest train stations to Forfar are Dundee and Arbroath, both of which are approximately 14 miles (23 km) away. As a result, Station Park is best reached by road.
