Catalina State Park is located at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains. It is home to nearly 5,000 saguaros and desert plants. There are 5,500 acres of foothills and canyons that offer opportunities for camping, hiking, and bird watching. The park is home to more than 150 species. At an elevation of nearly 3,000 feet, the park offers miles of trails for recreational use.

Oro Valley, incorporated in 1974, is a suburban town located 6 miles north of Tucson, Arizona, United States, in Pima County. According to the 2020 census, the population of the town is 47,070, an increase from 29,700 in 2000. Dubbed the "Upscale Tech Mecca" of Southern Arizona by the Arizona Daily Star, Oro Valley is home to over 10 high tech firms and has a median household income nearly 50% higher than the U.S. median. The town is located approximately 110 miles southeast of Phoenix, the state capital.
Oro Valley is situated in the western foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains at the base of Pusch Ridge. The Tortolita Mountains are located north of the town and vistas of the Tucson valley are to the south. The town occupies the middle Cañada del Oro Valley. Oro Valley hosts a large number of residents from around the US who maintain second or winter homes in the town.
The town hosted the 2006 Pac-10 Women's Golf Championships at the Oro Valley Country Club which was also the site for the 2006 Girls' Junior America's Cup, a major amateur golf tournament for the Western United States. Annual events in Oro Valley include the Oro Valley Festival of the Arts, El Tour de Tucson, the Oro Valley Music Festival, the Tucson Marathon, the Cactus Speed Classic for inline skaters, the Oro Valley Triathlon, and the Arizona Distance Classic.

The Bighorn Fire was a wildfire in the Santa Catalina Mountains north of Tucson, Arizona. It burned 119,987 acres until it was finally put out on July 23, 2020. A lightning strike from a storm at 9:46 PM on June 5, 2020 caused the fire. The fire was named after the bighorn sheep that inhabit the area.
The fire threatened hundreds of homes and multiple evacuations occurred. The first evacuations occurred in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood in Northern Tucson. The following day, residents in the Oro Valley section of the Catalina Foothills were ordered to evacuate. On June 16, Mount Lemmon and Summerhaven were evacuated. The length of the burn was attributed to rough mountainous terrain and inaccessibility. Additionally, the dry hot weather of the area made it even more difficult to fight the fire. The first storms of Tucson’s monsoon season are credited with helping emergency crews get the fire under control and to eventually put it out.

Oro Valley Country Club is a private country club in Oro Valley, Arizona, a suburb located 6 miles north of Tucson. The club was founded in 1959 and designed by Robert Bruce Harris. Oro Valley Country Club is situated on the banks of the Cañada del Oro, at the base of Pusch Ridge in the Santa Catalina Mountains. The Town of Oro Valley, incorporated in 1974, takes its name from Oro Valley Country Club.
The club features an eighteen hole golf course, tennis courts, and a swimming pool. In late 2006 Oro Valley completed a substantial renovation on the club house facilities.
Most recently, in 2006 Oro Valley hosted the 20th Pacific-10 Conference Women's Golf Championships. UCLA finished first in the team results. Oro Valley hosted the first-ever Pac-10 Women's Golf Championships as well, in 1987. Oro Valley also hosted the 2008 Southwest Section PGA Championship.
