Tysnes Municipality

Tysnes (Urban East Norwegian: [ˈtŷːsneːs]) is a municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sunnhordland. The administrative centre is the village of Uggdal. Other population centres in Tysnes include the villages of Våge and Onarheim. The island municipality is located in a group of islands near the mouth of the Hardangerfjorden.

Uggdal Church

Uggdal Church is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tysnes Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Uggdal on the large island of Tysnesøya. It is one of the two churches for the "Reksteren og Uggdal" parish which is part of the Sunnhordland prosti in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1876 using plans drawn up by the architect Ole Vangberg. The church seats about 650 people.

Uggdal

Uggdal or Uggdalseidet is the administrative centre of Tysnes Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the west side of the island of Tysnesøya. The village is located in the northern part of the Uggdalsdalen valley near the western coast. The village of Våge lies about 4 kilometres north of Uggdal. The 0.4-square-kilometre village had a population of 296 and a population density of 740 inhabitants per square kilometre. Since 2023, the population and area data for this village area has not been separately tracked by Statistics Norway since the village is no longer considered large enough to be an urban settlement. The southern part of the village is a small residential area known as Uggdalseidet and the northern part of the village is known as Uggdal. Uggdal is the site of the municipal administration, a doctor's office, the local fire and police stations, as well as a school. Uggdal Church is also located in the village, serving the southwestern part of the island of Tysnesøya.

The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1867 using plans drawn up by the architects Georg Andreas Bull and Hartvig Sverdrup Eckhoff. The church seats about 370 people.

Våge is the largest village in Tysnes Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern shore of the island of Tysnesøya, about 4 kilometres north of the village of Uggdalseidet. The village is the site of Tysnes Church. The village has a ferry quay that has regular connections to Haljem on the mainland in Bjørnafjorden Municipality on the other side of the Bjørnafjorden. The 1.05-square-kilometre village has a population of 893 and a population density of 850 inhabitants per square kilometre.

It is located in the village of Onarheim on the southeastern side of the island of Tysnesøya. It is the church for the Onarheim parish which is part of the Sunnhordland prosti in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1893 using plans drawn up by the architect Karl Askeland from Radøy. The church seats about 500 people.
