Elkhart University is a former school of medical and dental laboratory technologies. It was founded in 1882 in Elkhart, Indiana by H. A. Mumaw as a proprietary school.

Elkhart Downtown Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Elkhart, Indiana. The district encompasses 59 contributing buildings in the central business district of Elkhart. It was developed between about 1868 and 1930, and includes notable examples of Italianate, Queen Anne, and Classical Revival style architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed Green Block, Lerner Theatre, and Young Women's Christian Association. Other notable buildings include the Cornish Block, Franklin Street Station, Menges Building, former Post Office, Midwest Museum of Modern Art, Elkhart Water Company, Masonic Temple, Rowe Block, and Dreves Building.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
In 2024, The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, in collaboration with the City of Elkhart and the National New York Central Railroad Museum, is initiating the American Locomotive Project.

Elkhart station is a train station in Elkhart, Indiana, served by Amtrak's Floridian between Chicago and Miami, and Lake Shore Limited between Chicago and New York City/Boston. While the station has a waiting room, it is only open in early mornings and late evenings, half an hour before the first westbound and eastbound train arrives. It does not have a ticket agent, but the station does have personnel that can assist riders upon departure and arrival. The station is directly across the tracks from the National New York Central Railroad Museum.

The National New York Central Railroad Museum is a railroad museum located in Elkhart, Indiana dedicated to the preservation of the New York Central Railroad.
The museum includes several outdoor equipment displays, indoor model railroads, artifacts from the NYC and other railroad related exhibits including educational displays pertaining to the history of railroading. The museum is currently expanding its dedication to the preservation of both local and national railroad heritage. The museum consists of a modified NYC 20th Century Limited train set and freight house built by the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway in 1907.
