New College is a coeducational, sixth form college in Pontefract in West Yorkshire, England. It acquired academy status in 2017, forming a trust to open colleges in other areas, called the New Collaborative Learning Trust. At its Ofsted inspection in 2014 it was rated outstanding. In 2023 it was again rated outstanding.

Pontefract Tanshelf railway station
Pontefract Tanshelf railway station is the most central station in the market town of Pontefract in West Yorkshire, England, and serves Pontefract Races, the racecourse located just down the street from the station. It lies on the Pontefract Line operated by Northern and is 8 miles (13 km) east of Wakefield Kirkgate. In the days of coal mining in the Pontefract area, the station served the needs of the local workforce with regular and frequent services timed for the beginning and the end of mining shifts. The station is the closest to the former Prince of Wales Colliery which closed in August 2002. The station serves Beechnut Lane, the home ground of Pontefract Collieries F.C.
The first station on the site was opened on 17 July 1871 as Tanshelf, being renamed Pontefract Tanshelf on 1 December 1936. It was closed on 2 January 1967, when the passenger services were diverted away from the direct line to Wakefield Kirkgate (via Featherstone, to serve Leeds via Castleford. The present station was opened by West Yorkshire Metro on 11 May 1992, when the line between Wakefield Kirkgate and Pontefract Monkhill was reopened.
The other stations in the town are Pontefract Monkhill and Pontefract Baghill.
Unlike Pontefract Monkhill, both platforms of Tanshelf are wheelchair-accessible.

Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley is a constituency in West Yorkshire of the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election. It is currently represented by Yvette Cooper of the Labour Party, who currently serves as Foreign Secretary under the government of Keir Starmer. Cooper was MP for the predecessor seats of Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford from 2010 to 2024, and Pontefract and Castleford from 1997 to 2010.

Pontefract Collieries Football Club is a semi-professional football club based in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England. The team currently plays in the Northern Premier League Division One East. The club is affiliated to the West Riding County Football Association and Castleford & District Football Association. Founded in 1958 and nicknamed 'The Colls', they have traditional local rivalries with neighbours Glasshoughton Welfare, Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Selby Town. More recently, a rivalry has developed with Ossett United, including a promotion play-off at the end of the 2018–19 season, however recent stadium upgrades resulted in the two sharing stadiums between September and November 2025.
