2024 The Hague explosion

In the early morning of December 7, 2024, a major explosion occurred in the Mariahoeve en Marlot neighborhood of The Hague, Netherlands, resulting in at least six fatalities, injuries, and significant damage to several residential buildings. The explosion prompted a large scale emergency response and investigation. According to the police, the explosions were aimed at a bridal clothing store on the ground floor of the affected apartment complex.

N14 expressway

N14, or Rijksweg 14, is a dual carriageway in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. It goes from the end of N440 and ends in Motorway A4 and the Hague district Leidschenstad. It is a part of the Ring Den Haag, together with local roads, a part of the A4 and the short N440. In Leidschendam-Voorburg the N14 runs through the three Sijtwende tunnels, which together are just named Sijtwendetunnel. These tunnels crosses a railway a local road and a canal, but the longest part runs under residential neighbourhoods, partly alove ground in a "levee".

History

The station opened, as a railway station, in 1974 as part of the Hofpleinlijn (Den Haag - Rotterdam Hofplein). From 20 May 1977 the station was also served by services from Den Haag operating on the Zoetermeerlijn, operating Zoetermeer Stadslijn services. The railway station closed on 3 June 2006 and reopened as a RandstadRail station on 29 October 2006 for the HTM tram services (3 & 4) and on 11 November 2006 for the RET metro service (line E). The station features 2 platforms on either side of a viaduct. These have a high and a low platform, with RandstadRail 3 and RandstadRail 4 using the lower platforms, and line E using the higher platforms.
