Waberthwaite is a small, former rural civil parish (about 4 square miles in area) on the south bank of the estuary of the River Esk, in Cumberland, Cumbria, England. Since 1934 it has been part of the combined parish of Waberthwaite and Corney, which covers 10 square miles and has a population of 246 (2011 census). It is located opposite Muncaster Castle and the village of Ravenglass which lie on the north bank of the Esk. It is well known for its Cumberland sausages, and lists among its other assets a granite quarry that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI); the Esk estuary, which forms part of the Drigg Coast Special Area of Conservation (SAC) - a designation for areas of European importance; the 800-year-old St. John's Church, and the remains of two Anglian/Norse crosses of an earlier period. Archeological finds within 3 kilometres of Waberthwaite indicate that the area has been continuously inhabited since Mesolithic times (i.e. from around 5500 BC).

St John's Church, Waberthwaite

St John's Church is situated on the south bank of the River Esk in the hamlet of Hall Waberthwaite in the former civil parish of Waberthwaite (now part of the civil parish of Waberthwaite and Corney), Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Calder, the archdeaconry of West Cumberland, and the diocese of Carlisle. Its benefice is united with those of St Paul, Irton; St Michael, Muncaster; and St Catherine, Boot. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Eskmeals railway station

Eskmeals is a former railway station in the Eskmeals area of the Cumbrian coast, England. It was located on the Cumbrian Coast Line, south of Ravenglass and near to the estuary of the River Esk. It was situated at the southern end of Eskmeals Viaduct. It served a scattered farming community.

Eskmeals Viaduct

Eskmeals Viaduct is a railway bridge spanning the River Esk near Ravenglass in Cumbria, England. Although the line opened in 1850, the current viaduct dates from 1868 and has stone piers. The previous viaduct was made entirely of timber and it caught fire two weeks before the line opened, being partially destroyed. The modern viaduct carries the Cumbrian Coast Line and has been renovated at least three times; first in the 1920s, and twice in the 2020s.
