Linthouse

Linthouse is a neighbourhood in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It is situated directly south of the River Clyde and lies immediately west of Govan, with other adjacent areas including Shieldhall and the Southern General Hospital to the west, and Drumoyne to the south. Although it is currently located within the Govan ward of Glasgow City Council, it was in fact a distinct area separate from Govan (the boundary being the former Fairfield Shipbuilding Company headquarters and Elder Park) until 1901 when it willfully became part of the Burgh of Govan in turn both areas were annexed to Glasgow in 1912. Linthouse was home to the shipbuilder Alexander Stephen and Sons Limited who built many famous vessels for the Royal Navy in the 20th century. Linthouse was a separate Church of Scotland parish (Linthouse St. Kenneth) until November 2007 when it merged with the neighbouring parishes of Govan Old and New Govan to become part of the new Govan and Linthouse parish. Towards the end of the 19th century, there was a Scottish Football League club in the area, Linthouse F.C., although their ground while members of the league was Govandale Park, close to Govan Old Parish Church in the heart of the larger burgh. The Linthouse Urban Village is an organisation promoting the Linthouse area, as part of the larger Govan Initiative organisation. They run the LUV cafe on Govan Road and a gallery on the other side of the road. Linthouse also runs an annual Christmas market in the "Tunnel Park" which overlooks the Clyde Tunnel.

Elder Park, Govan

Elder Park is a public park in the Govan area of Glasgow, Scotland, located a short distance south of the River Clyde, to the east of the Linthouse neighbourhood. It contains Elder Park Library, a boating pond, the original Fairfield farmhouse, and Linthouse Mansion portico.

Fairfield Titan

The Fairfield Titan was a giant cantilever crane at BAE Systems' Govan shipyard, and the largest such crane on the River Clyde until it was demolished in 2007.

Glasgow City Heliport

Glasgow City Heliport (ICAO: EGEG) is a heliport located in Glasgow, Scotland. The Heliport is located at Linthouse Road in Govan, close to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The heliport is owned and operated by Babcock Mission Critical Services Onshore Ltd. and is the operating base for the Police Service of Scotland air support unit. This unit is operated by Babcock MCSO under contract. The heliport can also handle an amount of passenger traffic. The ground facilities consist of a maintenance hangar building and parking for 6 small to medium-sized helicopters. Aircraft permanently operating from Glasgow City Heliport are: Police 51 – Police Scotland Air Support Unit – (Eurocopter EC-135). The callsign Sierra-Papa-99 has been retired following the 2013 Glasgow helicopter crash. Historically a Scottish Ambulance Service aircraft (Airbus H145) was based on site, until the contract was in-housed away from Babcock by Gama Aviation and moved to Glasgow Airport. Glasgow City Heliport still provides support to HEMS acting as a refuel site and forward operating base for Scotlands Charity Air Ambulance (Eurocopter EC135) based at Perth Airport.

Govan High School

Govan High School is a secondary school situated in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland. It opened on its current site in 1969 and in 2010 it celebrated its centenary, with Sir Alex Ferguson (a former pupil) and Paul Wilson attending the event.
