Windermere School

Windermere School is a independent co-educational boarding and day school in the English Lake District. Founded in 1863, it has approximately 300 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, around a third of whom are boarders. The School was formally split across three campuses on over fifty acres of land: the junior school at Elleray (former campus); the senior school and sixth form at Browhead; and Hodge Howe, the school's Royal Yachting Association watersports centre on the shores of Lake Windermere. Windermere was named Sunday Times International Baccalaureate School of the Year for 2017-2018 and is a member of Round Square and the Society of Headmasters & Headmistresses of Independent Schools. The Good Schools Guide describes Windermere as 'a school which revels in a hearty approach to everything from academia to friendships'. In the latest inspection report by the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate (February 2018), Windermere School received the highest grades for the quality of the education provided; it was recognised as ‘Excellent’ for both categories: academic and other achievements, and personal development.

Troutbeck Bridge

Troutbeck Bridge is a village in the civil parish of Windermere and Bowness, in the Westmorland and Furness district, in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, England. It is situated 1 mile (1.5 kilometres) north of Windermere on the A591 road running through the Lake District and was historically in the county of Westmorland. The main secondary school for Windermere and Ambleside, The Lakes School, is located in the village, as is the postal sorting office for the area. Troutbeck Bridge takes its name from where the road crosses the Trout Beck. The community is served by a petrol station and convenience store, an inn and restaurant, a secondary school and a gym.

Windermere and Troutbeck

Windermere and Troutbeck (including Bridge House) is a National Trust property consisting of land around Windermere, a lake in Cumbria, England. This National Trust property includes the head of the Troutbeck Valley, several sites next to Windermere, and six farms. One of the farms — Troutbeck Park — once belonged to Beatrix Potter and was, in fact, her largest farm. Other popular places on the property include Ambleside Roman Fort, Bridge House in Ambleside, and Cockshott Point in Bowness-on-Windermere.

The Lakes School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Troutbeck Bridge, Windermere, in the English county of Cumbria. It is a comprehensive community school administered by Westmorland and Furness Council. Its catchment area includes: Grasmere, Langdale Valley, Ambleside, Troutbeck, Windermere, Bowness on Windermere and Staveley. The school also offers evening adult education classes to the local community.

Holehird Gardens

Holehird Gardens is an extensive 10-acre site located near Windermere, Cumbria, England. It is the home of the Lakeland Horticultural Society. The garden consists of a large variety of plants, particularly those suited to the local climate with its high rainfall. It is made up of extensive rock and heather gardens, alpine houses, and a walled garden which is of particular interest for its herbaceous borders. It was once voted by BBC gardeners to be one of the nation's favourite gardens.
