Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is the ninth national park in Nepal and was established in 2002. It is located in the country's mid-hills on the northern fringe of the Kathmandu Valley and named after Shivapuri Peak at 2,732 m altitude. It covers an area of 159 km2 in the districts of Kathmandu, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk, adjoining 23 Village Development Committees. In the west, the protected area extends to the Dhading District.

Budhanilkantha is a city and municipality in Kathmandu district of Bagmati province of Nepal. It is the 3rd largest city in the Kathmandu Valley after Kathmandu and Lalitpur. As per 2021 Nepal census, the city population was 179,688 and 26,678 households. It was established on 2 December 2014 by merging the former Village development committees Hattigauda, Khadka Bhadrakali, Chapali Bhadrakali, Mahankal, Bishnu, Chunikhel and Kapan. The city is situated at the foot of Shivapuri hill. At the time of the 2011 Nepal census, the VDC of Budhanilkantha had a population of 15,421. The municipality is named after the sacred Budhanilkantha Temple. The Budhanilkantha School is also located within the municipality.

Etymology

“Chapali” means agile, active, or moving. “Bhadrakali” is a form of the goddess Kali: “Bhadra” means auspicious or gentle, and “Kali” symbolizes power and destruction. The place was named after the temple of the goddess Bhadrakali located there. Chapali (चपली) means “agile, lively” and comes from Sanskrit चपल (capala) meaning “restless, quick, energetic. Bhadrakali (भद्रकाली) is a compound of भद्र (bhadra) meaning “auspicious, kind, noble, virtuous, refined” and काली (kālī) meaning “the dark one,” a fierce form of the goddess Durga. The toponym reflects both descriptive geography (possibly a lively or flowing area) and religious identity, centered on the worship of a powerful female deity.
