Marsh, Huddersfield

Marsh is a suburb of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England that is situated 0.93 miles (1.5 km) west of the town centre. At the 2001 census the population was recorded as 4,482. It is said that the area is so-called because it was wetland before it was reclaimed. It used to be known as Paddock-with-Marsh. The A640 road between Huddersfield town centre and Junction 23 of the M62 motorway runs through Marsh. This thoroughfare is known as Westbourne Road and is Marsh's main shopping area. One of Huddersfield's private schools, Huddersfield Grammar, is situated on Luck Lane. The Yorkshire and England cricketer Wilfred Rhodes and his family lived in Marsh for over 40 years. The actor James Mason originated from this area before going to Cambridge University and Hollywood. Holy Trinity Church lies in the eastern part of the suburb, just outside Huddersfield town centre, and was built between 1816 and 1819.

Huddersfield Grammar School

Huddersfield Grammar School is a coeducational independent school located in Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, England. The school was established in 1995 on the site of the former independent St David's School (Huddersfield), which closed on 1 September 1995. St David's school had been purchased and merged with the former independent Kayes College in 1995. Since 2007 the school has been owned and operated by the Cognita Group. In 2014, Cognita invested £3.5 million at Huddersfield Grammar School to improve the school's site and facilities.

Huddersfield West

Huddersfield West was a parliamentary constituency centred on the town of Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. It returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The constituency was created for the 1950 general election, and abolished for the 1983 general election. It was a much more marginal seat than its neighbour, Huddersfield East, which was safely Labour, and was alternately held by the Liberals, Labour Party and finally the Conservatives in 1979.

Edgerton, Huddersfield

Edgerton is a suburb of the town of Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, England. The suburb is located along the A629 road, also known as Edgerton Road, from Huddersfield to Halifax. It is some 1 mile (1.6 km) west of the town centre. It is the location of many of the towns largest and most imposing houses, as well as the town's principal cemetery. Although the place name has been traced back to the 14th century, Edgerton started its development in the early 19th century, when three substantial Georgian houses were built in the area. One of these houses, Edgerton Hill, survives today as the town's Ukrainian Club. By 1896, Huddersfield Corporation Tramways had built one of its pioneering steam tram lines through Edgerton. This was succeeded in turn by electric trams, trolley buses and motor buses. Politically, Edgerton forms part of the Greenhead ward of the metropolitan borough of Kirklees and is within the Huddersfield parliamentary constituency. It is bordered to the north by the suburb of Birkby, to the east by the town centre, to the west by Lindley and to the south by Marsh.
