Portrack - Izeria

Portrack is an east Stockton area in the borough of Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, England. It is close to Billingham opposite Thornaby and just west of Middlesbrough. The area is a large industrial and business part of Stockton, these are mainly centred on Portrack Lane. Stockton Cricket Club once played at the now former Portrack Lane cricket ground. It was home to a number of pubs such as the Prince of Wales, the Portrack Social Club known locally as the Blood Tub, the Cricketers Arms and the Royal Hotel which have all since closed. The only pub left in the area is the Portrack Hotel.

Portrack Lane

Portrack Lane was a cricket ground in Stockton-on-Tees, Durham. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1839, when Stockton played an All England Eleven. The ground also hosted two first-class matches, the first of which was in 1858 when a combined Yorkshire and Durham team played Nottinghamshire. The second and final first-class match to be played on the ground came in 1861, when Yorkshire with Stockton-on-Tees played Cambridgeshire. The final recorded match on the ground saw Stockton play a United South of England Eleven. Shortly after this, the ground ceased to be used for cricket matches. The ground was located at the far western end of Portrack Lane. By 1899, an iron works had been built on the ground, with the site today is occupied by an industrial estate and a gas holder. Portrack Lane is now primarily known as a major shopping area / complex in Stockton on Tees Asda have had a large superstore on Portrack Lane since 1970. The old store was replaced by a larger new store with a petrol filling station in May 2008. The old building was subsequently demolished.

Tilery

Tilery is a housing estate in Stockton-on-Tees within the borough of Stockton-on-Tees and the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. It is situated to the north of the town centre and is located next to the Portrack housing estate. The area of Tilery is much smaller than Portrack. Tilery has a small row of shops which run along the border of Norton Road. There is one school in Tilery, the Tilery Primary School which is located in St Ann's Terrace. HM Prison Holme House is situated to the east of the estate. There were a number of pubs located within Tilery such as the Wild Ox and the Blue Nile which have now closed. In 2015, the area was the second setting in the controversial show Benefits Street. The show primarily filmed on the Kingston Road area of Tilery. Benefits Street has been labelled by critics as "Poverty Porn". One resident of the Tilery estate was critical of the show saying “It’s not just those who are taking part in the show who will be labelled, we all will. When the kids go to school and tell their friends where they are from, or when someone applies for a job and the employer sees the address, it’s almost inevitable that they will be prejudged". The Guardian newspaper described the area as the most deprived ward in Stockton-on-Tees, saying the estate is plagued by high unemployment, low pay and poor health. Neil Maxwell who was one of the residents featured in the Benefits Street show was jailed for life in 2019 with a minimum term of 30 years as a result of the murder of Lee Cooper. Maxwell, along with an accomplice named Luke Pearson, had brutally beaten Cooper in what the judge called "a rampage of violence".

Stockton Norton Road railway station

Stockton Norton Road railway station was a station on the Clarence Railway's North Shore Branch Line. It served the market town of Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, England. It opened originally as the station for the Hartlepool and Stockton Railway from 1842 until 1852 when it was replaced by the stations at Stockton North and South. The station continued to be used by workmen's train services for the North Shore Shipyard until the closure of the line in 1968.

Tees Rowing Club

Tees Rowing Club is a rowing club based on the River Tees in Northeast England. The club is currently based at the River Tees Watersports Centre in Stockton-on-Tees and is affiliated to British Rowing. The blade colours are or were "white, with a light blue and maroon stripe"; kit: maroon with two light blue side stripes. The blade without white is a recent photography-based variant and likely post-dates 2020, due to a change of colours.
