Zwijndrecht's first railway station was opened on 1 November 1872. In 1895 the station was relocated to the southeast, because the old location was not very convenient. The current railway building was constructed in 1965.

Kijfhoek classification yard is a hump yard type freight rail yard between Rotterdam and Dordrecht in the Western Netherlands. The rail yard is named after the nearby village of Kijfhoek in the municipality of Zwijndrecht. With an area of 50 hectares Kijfhoek is the largest of the few railway yards left in the country. The rail yard has a key function in connecting the rail network at the Port of Rotterdam with the rest of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

Histoire
Ancienne seigneurie du Zwijndrechtse Waard, créée après le raz-de-marée en 1322 à l'instigation du comte Guillaume III de Hollande, Heer Oudelands Ambacht est érigée en commune à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. La commune est rattachée à la commune de Rijsoort de 1812 à 1817. En 1840, la commune comptait 12 maisons et 84 habitants. Le 19 août 1857, la commune de Heer Oudelands Ambacht est supprimée et rattachée à Groote Lindt.
