The Ohlanga River is a river in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, which empties into the Indian Ocean just north of uMhlanga, north of Durban. The river has extensive reed beds in the estuary at its mouth, which is only 7 km southwest from the mouth of the uMdloti River. Presently, this river is part of the Mvoti to Umzimkulu Water Management Area.

uMhlanga Lagoon is a 26 hectares nature reserve on the shore of the Indian Ocean at uMhlanga Rocks, South Africa. The reserve encloses the Ohlanga River's lagoon and mouth. The forest forms a natural extension of the less accessible Hawaan Forest, of which the greater part lies inland of the busy M4 road. The reserve trails start at a car park at the northern end of Lagoon Drive, uMhlanga.
The reserve has picnic sites, the remains of a prehistoric shell midden and walking trails, with a walkway and pedestrian bridge that span the lagoon.
At the mouth of the Ohlanga lagoon, there is a popular but unofficial nudist beach. Increased use of the area by non-nudist walkers and families resulted in complaints about nudism and antisocial behaviour. The area was at one time a ‘no-go’ area, due to a serious crime problem.

The Hawaan Forest is situated in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is a large remnant of a climax dry coastal dune forest and the last of its kind. This forest grows on a dune that dates back 18,000 years. The Hawaan forest is currently under the guardianship of the Wildlife and Environment Society of Southern Africa, but is owned by the Tongaat Hulett Group. The property was originally owned by the Campbell family who first settled there in 1859 and the Hawaan Forest has been protected since 1860. The Hawaan Forest Estate is known for being one of the most exclusive estates in the country.

The uMhlanga Rocks Lighthouse was completed in 1954 and stands on the beach in uMhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal. It is unmanned and active. The round concrete tower is white below and red above. The lighthouse is 21 m high and has a focal plane of 25 m above the high water mark.
The tower has a 600,000 CD electric light, which is mounted on a rotating system and can be seen 24 nautical miles away, as well as a fixed red light. The red light enables ships outside Durban Harbor to monitor their position. If the red light can be seen, the ship is too close to shore.
