Tanah Merah MRT station

Tanah Merah MRT station is an elevated Mass Rapid Transit station on the East–West Line. Located in Bedok, Singapore, the station is along New Upper Changi Road and serves various residential developments. It is the terminus of the EWL branch to Changi Airport station. Tentatively named Changi during its construction, the station opened on 4 November 1989. The station began to serve the Changi Airport branch on 10 January 2001 following the opening of Expo station. On 25 May 2019, it was announced that Tanah Merah station would interchange with the Thomson–East Coast Line when TEL takes over the Changi Airport branch following its extension to Changi Airport Terminal 5 by the mid-2030s.

East Coast Integrated Depot

The East Coast Integrated Depot is an integrated bus and train depot located in the Xilin subzone of Tampines, Singapore. It currently serves the East–West Line, with plans to serve two other Mass Rapid Transit lines: the Downtown Line and the Thomson–East Coast Line. Construction is expected to be fully completed by the second half of 2026. The ECID is located beside the current site of Changi Depot, which will be demolished. It will be the first MRT depot in Singapore to serve three MRT lines and the third to be integrated with a bus depot in Singapore, after Tuas Depot on the East–West Line and Gali Batu Depot on the Downtown Line. With this design, it is estimated that 44 hectares of land will be saved, equivalent to approximately 60 football fields. The depot will be able to house approximately >200 trains of varying sizes and lengths and >550 buses within the site.

Changi Depot

Changi Depot was a train depot located in Xilin, Tampines near Koh Sek Lim Road, Singapore. Completed in November 1989 along with the extension of the East–West Line to Tanah Merah, it comprised a train yard which could hold a capacity of 46 trains, and had an area of 250,000 square metres. The depot was used for both train inspection and deployment of trains to the East–West Line until its decommissioning on 14 March 2026. The depot is located between Expo and Tanah Merah stations on the East–West Line, and had 2 reception tracks: 2 tracks westbound towards Tanah Merah station. East Coast Integrated Depot serves as the replacement for this depot.

History

The former Bedok South Secondary School campus was located in the Bedok South Housing Estate. The former school campus opened in January 1980 with a teaching staff of 50 teachers and 1022 students. At that time, the school shared its premises with Temasek Secondary School and Hong San Primary School. In June 1980, the school had the entire building to itself when students and staff of the other schools moved out. The staff strength then was 27 and the student enrolment was 575 students. It comprised 12 Secondary One classes and 2 Pre-University classes. Bedok South Secondary School was declared open by the late Dr Lee Chiaw Meng, then the Member of Parliament for Tanah Merah on 29 April 1982. Mr Too Ming Ting was the first Principal. He was succeeded by Mr G Amoganathan, the late Mr Lau Woon Chung, Miss Koh Sauk Keow, Mr Goh Lay Guan, Mdm Koh Teck Siew, Mr Krishnan Aravinthan, Ms Pauline Fun Kar Whye and Mr Teoh Teik Hoe. Mr Koh Yong Hwee Daryl assumed duties on 15 December 2022. The school moved into its new campus on 27 December 2002 at 1, Jalan Langgar Bedok, Singapore 468585. The new campus was officially opened on 21 February 2004 by Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for East Coast GRC (Siglap). The school today sits on a 3 hectare plot with facilities that provide our students with a spacious, modern, well-maintained and conducive learning environment.
