Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills
The Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills is a museum of industrial heritage located in Armley, near Leeds, in West Yorkshire, Northern England. The museum includes collections of textile machinery, railway equipment and heavy engineering amongst others.
The Grade II* listed building housing the museum was once the world's largest woollen mill. The current structures were built in 1805 by Benjamin Gott and closed as a commercial mill in 1969. They were taken over by Leeds City Council and reopened as a museum of industrial heritage in 1982. It is located between the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire and accessed from Canal Road or Milford Place. It is part of Leeds Museums & Galleries, which also includes Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds City Museum, Leeds Discovery Centre, Lotherton Hall, Temple Newsam, Abbey House Museum and Kirkstall Abbey.

Armley asbestos disaster
The Armley asbestos disaster is a public health problem originating in Armley, a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Described by Dr. Geoffrey Tweedale as a "social disaster", it involved the contamination with asbestos dust of an area consisting of around 1,000 houses in the Armley Lodge area of the city.
The contamination was the result of the activities of a local asbestos factory, part of the Turner & Newall (T&N) group (often referred to by the name of its founders, J. W. Roberts Ltd.) and occurred between the end of the 19th century and 1959 when the factory eventually closed. At its peak the factory had 250 employees. At least 300 former employees are believed to have died from asbestos-related illnesses, and a number of cancer deaths in the Armley area were traced to the factory in 1988 as a result of an investigation by the Yorkshire Evening Post. The estate was found to have the highest incidence in the country of mesothelioma. As the interval between exposure and diagnosis can be up to 50 years the number of further deaths which may occur due to the factory's emissions or residual dust since its closure cannot be predicted.

Armley
Armley is a district in the west of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It starts less than 1 mile (1.6 km) from Leeds city centre. Like much of Leeds, Armley grew in the Industrial Revolution and had several mills, one of which now houses the Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills. Armley is predominantly and historically a largely working class area of the city, still retains many smaller industrial businesses, and has many rows of back-to-back terraced houses.
It sits in the Armley ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds West and Pudsey parliamentary constituency.
In 2022, statistics released by West Yorkshire Police revealed Armley and New Wortley had the second highest crime rate in Leeds after Leeds city centre.

Kirkstall Road Viaduct
Kirkstall Road Viaduct is a Grade II listed railway viaduct carrying the Harrogate line over the A65 Kirkstall Road, the River Aire, and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Burley, Leeds, West Yorkshire. It was built in 1849 by the engineer Thomas Grainger for the Leeds and Thirsk Railway. The viaduct, which is approximately 440 m (0.27 miles), is a significant local landmark due to the wide, shallow nature of the valley it crosses.
In addition to passing over the Aire, canal and road, the viaduct also passed over working class back-to-back accommodation in the river valley. The Kirkstall Viaduct remains in use today, with sections of the former Leeds Northern Railway line linking Leeds and Harrogate and connecting to York. However, its immediate surroundings are mostly 20th century industrial buildings and industrial parks, which replaced the residential back-to-backs.
Grainger supervised the construction of the whole the line from Leeds to Stockton-on-Tees via Harrogate and Thirsk; his design features twenty-one segmental arches on large rusticated piers, with chamfered voussoirs and a moulded cornice and parapet. At its south end, over the canal, is a low elliptical arch. The viaduct used local Bramley Fall sandstone in the form of rock-faced ashlar, the light colour of which is distinctive compared to the many red brick and dark buildings which surrounded it on construction. The viaduct was completed on 23 March 1849 and began operation from 9 July.
Kirkstall Road Viaduct is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II listed structure, having been designated on 22 September 1975. Grade II is the lowest of the three grades of listing, and is applied to "buildings that are nationally important and of special interest".
In 2020, as part of the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme, works were proposed to build a new flood wall with a hydrophilic seal around a single pier immediately north of the River Aire. This is in response to the floods in the Aire Valley on Boxing Day 2015.
