Friezland railway station

Friezland Railway Station served the Hamlet of Friezland in Saddleworth until closure on 1 January 1917. It was built by the London and North Western Railway on its Micklehurst Line. On 19 August 1909 a passenger train was derailed at Friezland. Both train crew were killed. The station closed for passenger traffic on 1 January 1917 but regular passenger traffic continued to pass through until 1964. Freight services to the station were withdrawn in 1965 and the line through the station was closed in 1966. The village is now served by Greenfield railway station.

Greenfield, Greater Manchester

Greenfield is a village in the civil parish of Saddleworth in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, in Greater Manchester, England. It is 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Oldham and 13 miles (21 km) north-east of Manchester. It is located in a broad rural area at the southern edge of the South Pennines; Dovestone Reservoir, Chew Reservoir and Greenfield Reservoir lie to the east of the village in the Peak District National Park. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Greenfield is sited in the Chew Valley, on the main A635 road from Ashton-under-Lyne to Holmfirth.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal is an inland waterway in northern England. It runs just under 20 miles (32 km) from Lock 1E at the rear of the University of Huddersfield campus, near Aspley Basin in Huddersfield, to the junction with the Ashton Canal at Whitelands Basin in Ashton-under-Lyne. It crosses the Pennines by means of 74 locks and the Standedge Tunnel.

Greenfield railway station

Greenfield railway station serves the village of Greenfield, in Greater Manchester, England. It is a stop on the Huddersfield Line, 12 miles (20 km) north-east of Manchester Victoria. It is the final station in Greater Manchester before the boundary with West Yorkshire. It is managed by Northern Trains, although only TransPennine Express trains call at this station. The station is located near to the reservoirs of Dovestone and Chew, as well as the whole of Chew Valley in the Peak District National Park.

Friezland

Friezland is a village in the civil parish of Saddleworth in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, in Greater Manchester, England. It is situated four miles east of the town of Oldham. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Friezland lies between the village of Grasscroft and nearby town of Mossley. Friezland is situated on the banks of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, and has a church, a church hall and a primary school. It is also the original home of Friezland Brass Band [1]. The band has now set up a base in neighbouring village Uppermill, Saddleworth. Friezland railway station was opened in 1886 by the LNWR on its loop line from Diggle to Stalybridge. The station itself was situated in what is, in the present day, outside of Friezland's boundaries and closer to the centre of nearby Greenfield. It closed to passengers in 1917.
